As the year gently folds itself away and the festive season arrives, we want to pause and speak directly to you, our spinal cord tumour survivors, carers, families, and friends.
Living with the long-term effects of a spinal cord tumour can make this time of year physically demanding and emotionally complex. Pain, fatigue, altered mobility, sensory changes, and disrupted routines do not disappear just because the calendar says “celebrate”. If you are navigating Christmas at a slower pace, or feeling different from the person you once were, you are not alone.
This season is also a quiet testament to resilience. Getting through another year with a changed nervous system, adapting again and again, finding new ways to live fully even when the body resists is no small achievement. Every careful step, every rest taken without guilt, every boundary respected is an act of strength.
As we look toward the New Year, we do so with realism and determination. Progress after spinal cord injury is rarely loud or linear, but it is real. Hope may look like stability, better symptom management, renewed self-kindness, or simply giving yourself permission to live at your own pace.
From all of us, thank you for being part of this community. Your stories, courage, and honesty help others feel less alone on their own journeys.
We wish you a peaceful Christmas, and a New Year that brings moments of comfort, connection, and possibility.
Take care of yourselves and each other.
